Mr. Yates
asked the
Minister for Education
if she will intervene to ensure the immediate adjudication of eligibility for higher education grant assistance for students attending a legal course (details supplied); her views on whether it is fair that many students attending this course have already been paid grants while others cannot get a decision from their local authority or her Department; if she will rectify this anomaly without further delay in view of her previous promise to reply to Deputy Ivan Yates on this matter; and if she will ensure that decisions in this regard are made within the next week.

As indicated in the reply of 19 April 1994 the issues involved are complex. While I could not undertake to have the matters at issue resolved within a week I have now set a deadline of one month by which time full clarification will be issued by my Department regarding the eligibility for a grant for the student in question.
