  30.  Mr. Molloy  Information on Robert Molloy  Zoom on Robert Molloy   asked the Minister for Education  Information on Niamh Bhreathnach  Zoom on Niamh Bhreathnach   if she will re-examine the position of Montessori education as part of our educational structure, particularly in view of the proposed reform of early childhood education.

Minister for Education (Ms Bhreathnach): Information on Niamh Bhreathnach  Zoom on Niamh Bhreathnach  Recognised Montessori teachers are already eligible to teach in special schools dedicated to the needs of children with disabilities, and they provide a valuable educational input in this area.

My Department is currently considering the report of the Special Education Committee including its recommendations in the pre-school area. The question of requirements relating to the qualifications of teachers to be involved in this area will form part of this consideration.
