Mr. Davern
asked the
Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht
if his attention has been drawn to Cashel Arts and Heritage Society, Cashel, County Tipperary and their production of "An Gorta Mhór", a commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the famine; and if he will consider grant aiding the project.
[4133/95]
[1304]Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht (Mr. M. Higgins):
I am aware that the Cashel Arts and Heritage Society are planning to stage a production, “An Gorta Mór”, to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Famine. I have already informed the organisation that my Department does not have funding at its disposal to allow me to financially support this project. However, the Deputy will be aware that an Interdepartmental Committee has been established under the aegis of the Department of An Taoiseach to co-ordinate the Government's plans to commemorate the Famine. I would suggest, therefore, that any funding requests be directed to that committee.
