Minister for Finance
the total amount of money raised by the national lottery during 1994; the total amount paid out in prize money during that period; the total amount allocated to various Government Departments; the use to which the balance has been put; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
[4381/95]
Minister for Finance (Mr. Quinn):
As indicated in the 1994 annual report and accounts of the National Lottery Company which are being published today, sales amounted to £291.4 million and the amount paid out in prize money was £148.8 million. After deduction of operating costs of £46.6 million the surplus produced for the national lottery fund was £95.9 million. The provisional outturn for lottery-funded spending in 1994 is £91.6 million, details of which were published in the Abridged Estimates Volume recently. Any unspent moneys remaining in the fund at the end of a year are available for allocation in subsequent years. Copies of the Abridged Estimates Volume and of the 1994 annual report and accounts are available from the Oireachtas Library.
