Ahern  Information on Noel Ahern  Zoom on Noel Ahern   asked the Minister for Social Welfare  Information on Prionsias De Rossa  Zoom on Prionsias De Rossa   the estimated number and approximate cost per annum if free television licences, ESB allowance and telephone rental introduced for retired civil servants and semi-State employees who pay the reduced PRSI rate and do not qualify at present. Minister for Social Welfare (Proinsias De Rossa): Information on Prionsias De Rossa  Zoom on Prionsias De Rossa  The free schemes referred to by the Deputy are available only to the recipients of social welfare type pensions who are either living alone or only with certain exempted persons. It is estimated that there are about 6,500 public service pensioners in that category and that the cost of extending the schemes in question to them would be about £2.5 million per annum.
