Mr. Bell
asked the
Minister for the Environment
the amount of money paid to local authorities in County Louth over the past five years for the upkeep of national primary and secondary and county roads.
[12096/95]
Minister for the Environment (Mr. Howlin):
Details of grant payments for the maintenance of national primary and national secondary roads for 1991, 1992 and 1993 are set out in the following table:
The payment of grants in 1994 and the allocation of grants in 1995 for the maintenance of national roads was a matter for the National Roads Authority.
Grant payments for non-national roads are not sub-divided on the basis of road categories. Furthermore, in the case of urban authorities it is a matter for each authority to determine the allocation of block grant receipts as between maintenance and improvement works. Subject to the foregoing the information requested for 1991 and 1992 is set out in the following table in respect of non-national roads.
[901] The information for 1993 is included in the reply to Question No. 137 of 9 February 1994. Payments in 1994 are the same as the allocations which were set out in my Department's booklets “Road Grants for 1994 — Non-National Roads (Discretionary Grants)” and “Statistics on 1994 Grant allocations for Non-National Roads”. Details of this year's allocations are set out in my Department's booklet “1995 Non-National Road Grant Allocations”. Copies of the 1994 and 1995 booklets have been placed in the Oireachtas Library.
