Minister for Justice (Mrs. Owen): Information on Nora Owen  Zoom on Nora Owen  The estimated cost of medical and dental services for prisoners in 1995 is £1.405 million. This is accounted for as follows:

Salaries/Fees for medical personnel (Director of Prison Medical Services, Pharmacist, 20 part-time Doctors) 0.332
Fees to Visiting Psychiatrists (10) 0.125

Hospital and other charges 0.030

Dental Costs
Dublin Dental Hospital (Service to Dublin prisons—5 full-time dentists, 1 micro-biologist and 3 dental nurses) 0.215
Dublin Dental Hospital—supplies 0.063
Visiting Dentists' fees (5) 0.090
Total Dental Costs 0.368
Overall Total 1.405

In addition, there is a provision of £1.334 milion in respect of salaries and allowances for prison officers assigned to paramedical duties.
