asked the
Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications
the standard procedures operated when his office or the office of the Minister(s) of State at his Department receives an anonymous letter; and if he has satisfied himself with the procedures that currently operate.

Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications (Mr. Lowry):
Upon receipt of an anonymous letter, its contents are examined and, where relevant, issues are raised. It is normal practice to examine each one on its merits and to decide on what course of action to pursue, after consideration of all the available relevant information. There can be no general rule as to how to deal with anonymous letters and each individual case is judged on its own merits.
