Mrs. O'Rourke
asked the
Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry
if he will ascertain and review the public advertising for posts in forestry (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter.
[24407/96]
Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates):
My Department recruits forestry inspectors grade III through the Civil Service Commission. All such posts are advertised in the national newspapers. I understand that the last competition was advertised in 1991.
Should my Department need to recruit forestry inspectors in the future, it will be by means of an open competition held by the Civil Service Commission and will be advertised as is normal practice in the national newspapers. There are no plans to review this process.
Any recruitment undertaken by Coillte Teoranta, the Irish Forestry Board, is a matter for that body and the Department has no involvement in the matter. I understand, however, that Coillte recruited a number of staff since 1990 to fill specialised positions in forestry. The competitions were advertised in the national newspapers and on university noticeboards.
