Mr. J. Walsh
asked the
Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry
the total expenditure on computerisation under the Public Capital Programme in each of the years from 1993 to 1996.
[24957/96]
Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Mr. Yates):
The expenditure on computerisation under the Public Capital Programme in my Department for the years 1993 to 1996 was as follows:
| Year | Expenditure under the Capital Programme |
|---|---|
| (£000) | |
| 1993 | 0.717 |
| 1994 | 3.207 |
| 1995 | 1,901 |
| 1996 | 3,078 |
The bulk of the capital expenditure since 1994 has been spent on the local office computerisation programme. This was in line with my commitments under the Farmers Charter to improving the delivery of services to the farming community. In 1996 with the increase in the incidence of BSE new control measures were put in place in district veterinary offices, factories, marts and export ports. Extra computer facilities costing about £1 million have been put in place to support these measures.
