asked the
Minister for Finance
if the issue of the tax problems of co-habit-ing couples will be dealt with in the 1997 Finance Bill in view of previous discussions and the undertaking that the issue would be addressed when divorce was introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

This is an issue which is being kept under on-going review and proposals in this area, if any, are a matter for consideration in the context of the Finance Bill to be published in the next few months.
