the total cost of non-civil servants and other such staff attached to his office for each of the years 1980, 1988, 1990, 1995 and 1996; and the estimated cost for 1997.

The Department of the Marine was established in 1987, so data for 1980 is not relevant. The total cost of non-civil servants and other such staff costs attached to my office and that of my predecessors, for each of the years 1988, 1990, 1995 and 1996, and the estimated cost for 1997 is as follows:

It should be noted that the costs incurred from 1995 to date and those estimated for 1997 are shared equally with the Department of Defence, reflecting the dual ministerial responsibilities of the portfolio. The above figures represent the Marine share of the costs.
