asked the
Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands
if she will give details of the legislation, if any, she expects to publish in 1997 and before June 1998; the legislation she expects to be enacted; and the new legislation, if any, which was not in preparation on her taking office, in the area of arts, culture and the Gaeltacht.

Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands (Miss de Valera):
It is my intention to publish proposals for legislation in the areas of powers and functions, wildlife, national parks and historic properties, architectural inventory, broadcasting, film and the Irish language in the period referred to. While some of the proposed legislation was in preparation at the date of my appointment, it is necessary, of course, to carry out a fundamental re-examination of any work already undertaken.
