Mr. Allen
asked the
Minister for Education and Science
the number and type of teachers in a school (details supplied) in County Cork on 30 June 1996, 30 June 1997 and 1 October 1997.
[19529/97]
Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin):
The staffing levels at the schools to which the Deputy refers on the dates in question are as follows: North Monastery A primary school — on 30 June 1996, there was a principal, six assistant teachers, a shared disadvantaged area concessionary teacher and a remedial teacher. On both 30 June 1997 and on 1 October 1997, staffing consisted of a principal, five assistant teachers, a shared disadvantaged concessionary teacher and a remedial teacher.
North Monastery B primary school — on both 30 June 1996, 30 June 1997 and 1 October 1997 the staffing consisted of a principal, ten assistant teachers, a shared disadvantaged area concessionary teacher and a remedial teacher. The tenth assistant teacher's post which was due to be suppressed at the end of the 1996-97 school year was retained in the school from 1 September 1997 because the school's enrolment in September 1997 was in breach of maximum class size guidelines.
