  142.  Mr. Flanagan      asked the Minister for Finance      the number of petrol engine cars and diesel engine cars sold new in the State for each of the past five years. [7878/98]

Minister for Finance (Mr. McCreevy):    I am informed by the Office of the Revenue Commissioners, which is responsible for the registration of vehicles in the State, that the information requested by the Deputy is not available from existing computer records. The vehicle engine type is captured at the point of registration but not in such a manner as would allow for the provision of the data as requested.
