Mr. Ring
asked the
Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources
when a foreshore licence application for County Mayo will be approved.
[14616/98]
Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources (Dr. Woods):
I propose to take Questions Nos. 67 and 68 together.
Consideration of this application had been deferred by my Department pending a decision on the application for planning permission by Mayo County Council. The county council decided on 22 April 1998 to grant permission in respect of a revised application.
The Department subsequently received the appropriate documentation from the applicants on 25 May 1998 and immediately referred it to its specialist advisers for examination. When this examination has been completed it will be necessary to engage in public consultation on the application, including publication of a notice by the applicants in a local newspaper.
Following the public consultation process I will then make a decision on the application, having regard to all aspects of the case, comments made by the public, points made by the applicants and the expert advice which is available to me.
I can assure the Deputies that the matter will be brought to a conclusion as soon as possible.
