Mr. Ring
asked the
Minister for Finance
if he will have arrangements made for an official from the Office of Public Works to call on a person (details supplied) in County Mayo in relation to the cleaning of a river (details supplied).
[15109/98]
Minister of State at the Department of Finance (Mr. Cullen):
The river in question forms part of the Moy catchment drainage scheme for which the Commissioners of Public Works have responsibility for maintenance. It is monitored on an ongoing basis and the most recent report from the Office of Public Works' engineer indicates that, while there are some trees and bushes along the banks of the channel, these are not causing any significant obstruction to flow. However, the condition of the river will continue to be monitored and, if deemed necessary, some maintenance of the channel will be included in next year's programme.
[1654] A meeting will be arranged in the context of this monitoring.
