  577.  Mr. Sargent      asked the Minister for Education and Science      the number of third level students with dependent children; the measures, if any, his Department has put in place to ensure that there is sufficient funding for child care in third level establishments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7610/99]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. Martin):    My Department does not have details of the number of third level students with dependent children and no specific funding is provided by my Department for child care facilities in third level colleges. I understand, however, that the higher education equality unit is finalising a survey on child care provision in third level edu[786] cation, which should be completed by the end of April 1999.
