Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources
the fishing grounds most regularly frequented by Irish fishermen together with foreign registered fishing vessels; the extent, if any, of depletion of fish stock, by species, in these waters; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

[461]Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources (Mr. Fahey):
The fishing areas most regularly frequented by Irish and foreign fishing vessels are detailed in the Marine Institute publication The Stock Book, a copy of which will be forwarded to the Deputy. Mr. Durkan
asked the
Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources
the position in respect of fish stock in Irish waters; the degree, if any, to which these stocks have been depleted in recent years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
[3866/00]
Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources (Mr. Fahey):
I have forwarded to the Deputy the up to date assessment by the Marine Institute which comprehensively analyses the state of fish stocks in Irish waters. The analysis confirms that a number of key stocks are heavily exploited and in some cases severely depleted.
