[1208]

  214.  Mr. Gregory  Information on Tony Gregory  Zoom on Tony Gregory   asked the Minister for Education and Science  Information on Michael J. Woods  Zoom on Michael J. Woods   the position with regard to the agreed refurbishment of Coláiste Mhuire, Cearnóg Pharnell, Baile Átha Cliath 1; when the work will commence; the time-scale involved; the alternative temporary premises available to the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6201/01]

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): Information on Michael J. Woods  Zoom on Michael J. Woods  The design team appointed for the project are currently preparing the Stage 3 documentation for the proposed refurbishment works to Coláiste Mhuire, Cearnóg Pharnell, Baile Átha Cliath 1, and it is expected that this documentation will be submitted to my Department for examination shortly. While it is not possible at this stage to determine timescales for commencement of the works, I should point out to the Deputy that there are concerns regarding the likely cost of this project because of the nature of some of the existing buildings. This matter will be addressed as part of the examination of the stage 3 submission.

Due to safety concerns, the school authorities of Coláiste Mhuire have been advised by my Department to assess the availability of temporary accommodation with a view to vacating the existing building as soon as possible.
