  188.  Mr. O'Shea  Information on Brian O'Shea  Zoom on Brian O'Shea   asked the Minister for Education and Science  Information on Michael J. Woods  Zoom on Michael J. Woods   his views on the concerns of leaving certificate and junior certificate students in Tramore, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9317/01]

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): Information on Michael J. Woods  Zoom on Michael J. Woods  I assure the Deputy and all students and their parents that the 2001 certificate examin[1067] ations will proceed without any diminution in either the integrity or validity of the examinations.

As I have already indicated, the results of the examinations may issue later than usual if delays are experienced during the marking process. Some delay may be unavoidable in the case of [1068] the junior certificate. The priority will be to ensure that standards are maintained. It is essential that the high reputation enjoyed by our public examinations continues and that public confidence in the examination system is preserved. As the Deputy may know, discussions are at an advanced stage in the Labour Court. A successful outcome to these talks would be helpful.
