132. Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Education and Science the structures and electoral procedures of the National Parents Council, post-primary; and the funding which is provided by his Department. [12324/01]
Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): I am informed that the National Parents Council – post-primary – is comprised of five constituent bodies. Each of these bodies devises its own rules and regulations, including the arrangements for the nomination of delegates to the council.
|Constituent Body||Number of Delegates|
|Catholic Schools Parents' Association||5|
|Federation of Christian Brothers||3|
|Co-operation of Minority Parents' Associations, Secondary Schools||2|
|National Parents' Associations Vocational Schools and Community Colleges||5|
|Parents' Associations for Community and Comprehensive schools||3|
The National Parents Council – post-primary – is comprised of 18 nominees of the constituent bodies as outlined above. Officer positions within the council are filled on foot of nominations sought in advance of the annual general meeting. In the event of more than one nomination being received for any particular position a secret ballot is conducted among the membership of the council.
