Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): Information on Michael J. Woods  Zoom on Michael J. Woods  I am informed that the National Parents Council – post-primary – is comprised of five constituent bodies. Each of these bodies devises its own rules and regulations, including the arrangements for the nomination of delegates to the council.

Constituent Body Number of Delegates
Catholic Schools Parents' Association 5
Federation of Christian Brothers 3
Co-operation of Minority Parents' Associations, Secondary Schools 2
National Parents' Associations Vocational Schools and Community Colleges 5
Parents' Associations for Community and Comprehensive schools 3

The National Parents Council – post-primary – is comprised of 18 nominees of the constituent bodies as outlined above. Officer positions within the council are filled on foot of nominations sought in advance of the annual general meeting. In the event of more than one nomination being received for any particular position a secret ballot is conducted among the membership of the council.

My Department provides a funding allocation of some £90,000 per annum to the council. This funding is conditional on the provision by the council of audited annual accounts.
