Dáil Eireann Debate
212. Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will consider the application for grant aid in respect of extra facilities required at the North Kildare Club, County Kildare; if his attention has been drawn to the full extent of the improvements involved; if he will fund all such proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12480/01]
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation (Dr. McDaid): The sports capital programme for 2001 was advertised in mid December 2000 with a closing date of 9 February 2001 for the receipt of completed applications. In excess of 1,450 applications were received, including one from the organisation in question. All applications are currently being evaluated by officials in my Department against the programme's assessment criteria, which are outlined in the guidelines which accompanied the application form. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.
213. Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if works may commence on a project (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12481/01]
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation (Dr. McDaid): A grant of £80,000 was provisionally allocated to the club in question under the 2000 sports capital programme. To enable my Department to formally approve the grant the club was required to submit the necessary documentation required under the programme. The club must also execute a deed of trust to protect the State interest in the project. This is a requirement in respect of facilities in receipt of grant-aid above a certain threshold, which stood at £39,000 up to and including the 2000 programme.
The club in question has recently submitted documentation to my Department in relation to the project. This documentation has been forwarded for examination to the Office of Public Works, which acts as technical advisers to my Department in relation to the sports capital programme. As soon as the views and recommendations of the Office of Public Works have been received, the club will be advised of the position.
