asked the
Minister for Education and Science
the number of staff employed at his Department's school buildings unit in Tullamore, County Offaly; the number of job vacancies in this section; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods):
Fifty seven members of staff in administrative grades are serving in the primary and post-primary building sections of my Department's planning and building unit; 31 are in the primary section and 26 are in the post-primary section. There are no vacancies in these sections.
Professional and technical staff are assigned to the planning and building unit as a whole to deal [1315] with planning and building projects at first, second and third levels. There are 25 members of staff currently serving in these grades and there are eight vacancies.
[1316] The staffing needs of the planning and building unit, as well as the needs of all other areas of my Department, are kept under constant review and staff are deployed to meet the unit's needs within available resources.
