  273.  Mr. Crowe  Information on Sean Crowe  Zoom on Sean Crowe   asked the Minister for Education and Science  Information on Noel Dempsey  Zoom on Noel Dempsey   the amount of money spent on an annual basis going back over the past five years, on rented premises and lands for primary schools. Minister for Education and Science (Mr. N. Dempsey): Information on Noel Dempsey  Zoom on Noel Dempsey  Expenditure on rental of temporary school premises for primary schools for the past five years was as follows: 1998 – £1.053 million (€1.337m); 1999 – £1.852 million (€2.352m); 2000 – £3.152 million (€4.002m); 2001 – £4.756 million (€6.039m); 2002 –€8.402 million.

The expenditure covers grant-aid to schools for the rental of temporary accommodation of all kinds and any associated costs, including in some cases the rental of sites for the location of prefabs.
