Mr. Wall
asked the
Minister for Transport
the position regarding the extension of the Arrow service to Athy and Carlow, the timescale for such a proposal, and if he will make a statement on the matter.
[22507/03]
Minister for Transport (Mr. Brennan):
I am informed by Irish Rail that an Arrow-type commuter service already exists between Dublin and Carlow and Athy, with one early-morning commuter service to Dublin and two return evening services daily. I understand from Irish Rail that there is adequate capacity on the service at present.
Irish Rail has indicated that it has no immediate plans to provide extra peak commuter services because of competing demands from larger provincial locations, but the services will be upgraded in the longer term as part of a general enhancement of rail services to growing provincial towns.
