Mr. Naughten
asked the
Minister for Education and Science
the application and use of funds derived from his Department's Asian strategy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
[29000/03]
Minister for Education and Science (Mr. N. Dempsey):
The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment is the lead Department on the Government's Asia-Pacific strategy. It was developed following the Taoiseach's visit to China in 1998. The implementation of the strategy, including the application in the use of funds, is overseen by the Asia-Pacific strategy committee. It is chaired by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and includes representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of the Taoiseach, Enterprise Ireland, Tourism Ireland, An Bord Bia, Bord Íascaigh Mhara, IBEC, the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland, the Irish Exporters Association and MEI-RELSA or the English Language Schools Association. To date my Department has not received funding from the strategy.
