  82.  Mr. Wall  Information on Jack Wall  Zoom on Jack Wall   asked the Minister for Education and Science  Information on Noel Dempsey  Zoom on Noel Dempsey   the reason the advancement of the new building for Athy Community College, Athy, has not taken place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29584/03]

Minister for Education and Science (Mr. N. Dempsey): Information on Noel Dempsey  Zoom on Noel Dempsey  The proposed large-scale building project for Athy Community College is listed in section 7 of the 2003 school building programme which is published on my Department's website at www.education.ie This proposed project is at stage 1 – site suitability, briefing, site report – of architectural planning. It has been assigned a band 3 rating by my Department in accordance with the published criteria for prioritising large scale projects.

Emergency roof repairs were recently approved at the school by my Department from its contingency fund. An application has also been received from the school authority in regard to the repair of roof and gutters at the school. My Department will contact the school regarding its access issues.

I intend to publish details of the 2004 school building programme by early January at the latest. The programme will clarify what progress is planned for projects, such as proposed for the school in question, during 2004.
