  71.  Ms O’Sullivan  Information on Jan O'Sullivan  Zoom on Jan O'Sullivan   asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources  Information on Dermot Ahern  Zoom on Dermot Ahern   the position in regard to the proposed sale of Balbriggan and Skerries harbours by the Dublin Port Company; if he has met with local fishermen to discuss objections to the sale; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13713/04]

Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources (Mr. D. Ahern): Information on Dermot Ahern  Zoom on Dermot Ahern  Dublin Port Company is established under the Harbours Act 1996. Section 15 of the Act provides that a decision by the company to dispose of any of its land shall only be made by the directors of the company and that the consideration for which any land is sold shall, in so far as is practicable, not be less than its open market value.

My Department has been informed by Dublin Port Company of its decision to offer the two harbours for sale because they constitute a burden on the users of Dublin Port as the company derives no revenue whatsoever from them.

Under the Act, the company does not require my approval for its decision. Any person who wishes to object to the decision of the company should make this objection known to the company.
