Minister for Defence
the number of Army deafness claims that remain outstanding; when he expects these [1154]to be dealt with; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Minister for Defence (Mr. O’Dea):
On 31 January 2005 there was a total of 1,290 army hearing loss claims still outstanding. It is hoped that these claims can be disposed of this year subject to the plaintiffs’ solicitors having these claims [1155]listed for court. It should be noted, however, that a small number of new hearing loss claims are still being received in my Department each month.
