  396.  Mr. S. Ryan  Information on Seán Ryan  Zoom on Seán Ryan   asked the Minister for Education and Science  Information on Mary Hanafin  Zoom on Mary Hanafin   if her attention has been drawn to the fact that St. Michael’s House and Fingal County Council have been informed by her Department that a site is not required in Skerries, County Dublin to provide for a much needed replacement national school for St. Michael’s House special national school, Skerries; if her attention has further been drawn to the school’s 21 year history in Skerries and its involvement in the local community, the residential location of the pupils and the preference of the parents and friends of this school to have the new school located in Skerries; and if, in view of this, she will reconsider this case with a view to reversing her Department’s decision. [12750/05]

Minister for Education and Science (Ms Hanafin): Information on Mary Hanafin  Zoom on Mary Hanafin  Officials in the school planning section of my Department are aware of the need to provide a long-term solution to the accommodation needs of St. Michael’s House special school, Skerries. It is the understanding of officials in my Department that the children attending the school come from a wide catchment area. The locating of the school in the Skerries area is one of a number of possible accommodation options for the school. However, no final decision has been taken on this matter.
