  550.  Deputy Dan Neville  Information on Dan Neville  Zoom on Dan Neville   asked the Minister for Education and Science  Information on Batt O'Keeffe  Zoom on Batt O'Keeffe   when it is planned to complete construction of a primary school at Kilfinane, County Limerick. [9897/09]

Minister for Education and Science (Deputy Batt O’Keeffe): Information on Batt O'Keeffe  Zoom on Batt O'Keeffe  In January I announced 10 major school building projects which are to re-tender and to proceed to construction in 2009. The school referred to by the Deputy was part of this announcement. The project is to be re-tendered under the new form of contracts for public capital projects to get better value for money.

The school authorities have been advised to start the re-tendering process so that construction work can get under way as quickly as possible. Officials from my Department recently met with the school authorities and their design team for a briefing session which provided guidance as to the next steps to be taken. My Department, through the school authorities, will continue to monitor the progress of the project with a view to its commencing construction at the earliest possible date and will provide the necessary advice and guidance to the school and its design team in this regard.
