  404.  Deputy Jim O’Keeffe      asked the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food      the position in relation to the use of valuers from the private sector in relation to foreshore applications arising from the difficulties in the Valuation Office supplying a valuation service for same and consequently a total hold up in the issue of foreshore licences; and if he will confirm that this blockage will be cleared without further delay. Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Deputy Brendan Smith):    Following confirmation by the Valuation Office that it would not be in a position to supply a valuation service in respect of activities on State foreshore, my Department sought approval from the Department of Finance for the use of valuers from the private sector. A number of applications for foreshore consents currently on hand cannot be progressed without valuation. The Department of Finance gave my Department sanction to obtain the services of valuers from the private sector subject to conditions and my Department sought expressions of interest from a wide range of valuers. Based on replies received quotes for specific projects have been requested from selected valuers. Assessment of these quotes is in train and I expect my Department to be in a position to engage a firm of valuers very soon.
