272.
Deputy Frank Feighan
asked the
Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources
if persons employed as telephonists in the Department of Posts and Telegraphs by the Civil Service Commission in the 1970s are entitled to pensions; and the age at which same is entitled.
[37864/09]
Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources (Deputy Eamon Ryan):
I am assuming that the Deputy is referring to female Civil Servants, employed as telephonists by Department of Posts and Telegraphs who were compelled to leave the Civil Service on mar[754]riage. The situation for those employees is that a marriage gratuity was paid in lieu of pension benefits and therefore there is no further entitlement to a Civil Service pension.
Question No. 273 answered with Question No. 271.
