[31063/10]

Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government (Deputy Michael Finneran): Information on Michael Finneran  Zoom on Michael Finneran  In August 2008, my Department issued a circular to all library authorities in relation to a new capital programme. As part of that circular, proposals from previous capital programmes which had not received tender approval were withdrawn. A proposal for a new library headquarters for Kilkenny had been in place for some time but had not progressed in part due to lack of a suitable site.

As a result, no funding had been allocated to the provision of a new library in Kilkenny prior to the announcement on 5 July, 2010 of €350,000 in 2011 for a central library in Kilkenny City. This will form part of the 2010-2011 Libraries Capital Programme.
