Minister for Defence
the amount of funding spent in 2009 and 2010 by his Department on Irish language training for public servants; the number of persons that participated in Irish language training courses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Irish Language Training courses for the Department are directly funded by the Department of Finance (Training Civil Service Training and Development Centre, Gaeleagras). Four staff participated in Irish language training in [762]2010. In addition, in 2010, two staff were awarded scholarships which consisted of one weeks course in a Gaeltacht area. A payment of €125 is issued to the staff member by the Department following their attendance at a scholarship course.
