  40.  Deputy Brendan Smith      asked the Minister for Education and Skills      when the report will be finalised in relation to expenditure issues at Waterford Institute of Technology; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12178/11]

Minister for Education and Skills (Deputy Ruairí Quinn):    I am aware of recent steps taken by the Governing Body of Waterford Institute of Technology to commission an external review of spending incurred by the President's office at the institute. I understand that this has been considered at a recent meeting of the institute’s Governing Body. The Higher Education Authority has now sought a report from the institute on the issues that gave rise to the decision to commission an external review and of any issues arising from the external review. That report, which it is expected will be submitted to the HEA in the near future, will be expected to address details of expenditure over the period in question, whether any departures from appropriate policies and processes in place to monitor and control expenditure have occurred and any actions proposed by the Governing Body in light of its findings.
