623.
Deputy Patrick O’Donovan
asked the
Minister for Justice and Equality
if he will clarify a matter (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter.
[41293/11]
Minister for Justice and Equality (Deputy Alan Shatter):
I presume that the Deputy is referring to the Scheme of Compensation for Personal Injuries Criminally Inflicted. This scheme is administered by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Tribunal. The Tribunal considers applications from people who suffer a personal injury or death as a result of a crime of violence. Compensation may be awarded on the basis of any vouched out of pocket expenses, including loss of earnings experienced by the victim or, if the victim has died as a result of the incident, by the dependants of the victim. The Deputy may obtain further details on the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme by accessing my Department’s website at www.justice.ie and following the links under ‘Other Regulatory Functions’.
