That Seanad Eireann hereby approves of the Gárda Siochána [1699] Pensions Order, 1942, made on the 18th day of June, 1942, by the Minister for Justice with the sanction of the Minister for Finance, under Section 13 of the Police Forces Amalgamation Act, 1925, and laid before the Seanad on the 23rd day of June, 1942.
Minister for Justice (Mr. Boland):
This Pensions Order is necessary in order to make provision for the case of a man who was dismissed from the Dublin Metropolitan Gárda in 1925. He was out of the service for three or four months and then reinstated. He has [1700] now retired and the existing Pensions Orders do not cover a case of that kind. This is introduced to ensure that he will be entitled to a pension for his actual service, that is, for his service before he was dismissed and after he was reinstated. There may be one or two other cases like this, but they will not arise until the time comes for the men to retire.
Mr. M. Hayes:
That is a reasonable Order.
The Seanad adjourned at 8.25 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 15th July.
