An Cathaoirleach:
I am sorry to have to interrupt the Senator but it is now a few minutes past the customary time for adjournment. I should like the House to determine what it wishes to do.
Mr. M.J. O'Higgins:
I think we will sit until 11 o'clock anyhow.
An Cathaoirleach:
Are we agreeable to sit until 11 o'clock, if necessary, to finish the Second Stage?
Mr. M.J. O'Higgins:
At least until 11 o'clock.
An Cathaoirleach:
I do not know if that is what the Opposition agreed to.
Mr. M.J. O'Higgins:
It might be worth having another look at the situation at 11 o'clock to see if the end is in sight.
Mr. Yeats:
I take it that the Seanad is not even beginning to think of finishing tonight.
Mr. M.J. O'Higgins:
We will agree to sit until 11 o'clock but if the situation should arise that there is a concluding speaker—I am not talking about the Taoiseach, but a Senator concluding—we might possibly sit a little longer to let him finish.
Mr. Yeats:
I do not think that is very satisfactory but I know there are at least some Senators who are thinking in terms of speaking in the morning.
[975]Mr. M.J. O'Higgins:
Let us take it that 11 o'clock is definite. If, say, Senator Yeats is speaking at 11 o'clock and requires a few minutes in which to conclude, we will not prevent him from concluding.
Mr. Yeats:
Then continue the Second Reading in the morning.
An Cathaoirleach:
We are clear now that the debate will continue to 11 p.m. Since the Senator has been interrupted, perhaps, I could take the opportunity now if the Seanad is willing to receive the report from the Committee of Selection which met this afternoon.
