An Cathaoirleach:
We have a question on the Adjournment and the Minister will not be available until 2.30 p.m.
Mr. Ferris:
I propose that we adjourn [1346] the House until 2.30 p.m. to facilitate the Minister and Senator Kiely.
Mr. Smith:
I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Fianna Fáil Party, to wish the Cathaoirleach, the Clerk of the Seanad, the Clerk Assistant, the officials and Government Senators a happy sojourn. This has been a workmanlike session, in spite of criticism levelled at the Seanad by Senators who have been absent this week when we were discussing a very important motion. I know what I am saying will not get any publicity but if the other Senator had made a contribution it would get full publicity. Over the last two weeks we have noticed the absence of Members who denigrate the work of this House.
I hope everybody has a pleasant summer and I look forward to the next session.
Mr. Ferris:
I thank Senator Smith for his kind comments. We have had a very worthwhile working session and there was a good working relationship between the Opposition and the Government. We have passed a lot of useful legislation and proved that we are a necessary part of the Houses of the Oireachtas.
Sitting suspended at 1.10 p.m. and resumed at 2.30 p.m.
